Marc Castells

ST-THOMAS, Virgin Islands USA

Level V Captain Rank Chief Sailing Instructor / Assessor

I started my sailing career as an avid racer, but discovered my love for cruising and instructing when I spent a summer teaching teenagers to sail on liveaboard boats as an ASA Instructor in the BVI in 2007. Since then, I've taken an interest in sailing as a platform for travel and a way to live a simpler life that is more compatible with nature. In 2015, I decided to buy an old boat to fix up and sail down to the Caribbean. I sailed down the east coast of the US, through the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico and to the Virgin Islands. I sailed between the VI and the Grenadines with the seasons and have made it as far south as Grenada. I have taught for several sailing schools in the Caribbean and work for CYOA Yacht Charters as a captain, briefer, and technician. I founded Island Hopper in cooperation with CYOA to offer sail training on the best boats in the charter industry.
