Joaquin Diaz

Level IV Captain Rank Chief Sailing Instructor / Assessor

Rated 4.98/5 by 23 students
Captain J's father was a lobster fisherman. Even while fulfilling his mother's ambitions, that he become an architect, Captain J always kept a toe in the water. As the years passed Captain J's foot kept getting wetter. After finding a like-minded First Mate, Captain J sold the house, and moved to a sailboat, where the couple raised two children while island hopping the Caribbean. At the children's request "we want to be normal", we returned to civilization (a misnomer).

very knowledgeable, patient and never felt rushed. Capt Diaz took his time to clearly went over the tasks, pros and cons of different situations and shared several tips he gathered over his long and extensive sailing experience. His boat is in impeccable condition and access is excellent, centrally located and Biscayne Bay a great place to sail.

I had a great time with Instructor Joaquin Diaz, he was thorough, very knowledgeable, and friendly. His boat was kept meticulously clean and in perfect working order. The Practical Assessment was fun and enjoyable, and I would recommend him to anyone that wants to learn anything about sailing and or boating safety.

Joaquin did a great job explaining what was expected and gave a good explanation of how his boat worked. The boat was responsive and I learned a lot about boat handling in reverse. I will be more competent handling our own sail boat.
